Durham Technical Community College

New Health & Life Sciences Building, Orange County Campus Expansion

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA

Durham Technical Community College (Durham Tech), an expanding North Carolina institution with seven campuses, serves over 18,000 students yearly. The college provides a range of programs including engineering, health technologies, life sciences, human services, and public safety. Recognizing the region’s evolving needs as a top and growing life sciences cluster, Durham Tech’s expansion plans prioritize training programs crucial for developing skills aligned with the evolving health and life sciences industries and the needs of a growing population. Occurring in tandem, construction projects for a health sciences building, life sciences building, and the expansion of the Orange County campus underscore Durham Tech’s commitment to meeting local industry demands.

Health Sciences Building:
The health sciences building will be three-stories and situated on Durham Tech’s main campus. The building will house classrooms, science labs, simulation labs, and study spaces for the health sciences and allied health programs. The project also includes building a pedestrian bridge over E. Lawson St., streetscape improvements along E. Lawson St., new/relocated utility infrastructure, new parking area(s), and a new plaza to integrate all central campus buildings.

Life Sciences Building:
A one-story building that will serve as a life sciences training facility will be located on Durham Tech’s main campus. The life sciences building will house lab space, classroom space, break rooms, and study areas for BioWork and Bio Processing programs, as well as life sciences companies – for employee training.

Orange County Expansion:
An additional 14,000 square feet will be added to the Orange County campus to better serve the area’s growing student population. Enhancements will include HyFlex classrooms, flex labs, offices, student collaboration areas, equipment storage, and more.
