NCDOT Road Work Improvements

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA

The NCDOT road work project included improvements on three major roads in Research Triangle Park – Cornwallis Road, Davis Drive, and Laboratory Drive.

Cornwallis Road Scope:
The project included adding a right run lane 525 LF on the approach to the existing intersection and upgrades to the intersection signalization, 5” of B25.0B roadway base, followed by paving 4” of I19.0B intermediate course pavement. The pavement section was completed with 3” of S9.5B surface course pavement.

Davis Drive Scope:
The project included adding a left turn lane to Syngenta's entrance, installation of RCP drainage, 5” of B25.0B, followed by 4” of I19.0B intermediate course pavement. Final pavement section of 3” of S9.5B surface pavement completed Davis Drive paving.

Laboratory Drive Scope:
The project included full-depth reclamation, milling of the existing pavement, grading, and compacting of the existing stone base, 2.5” of I19.0B intermediate course pavement followed by 1.5” of S9.5B surface course pavement.

Also included in scope:

• Installation of temporary traffic control devices
• Installation of new traffic control equipment
• Installation of erosion control
• Utility relocation
• Installation of drainage
• Installation of concrete curb and gutters
• Installation of temporary and permanent roadway striping

35 North's roles and responsibilities included land acquisition, scope creation, bid solicitation, general contractor selection, contract management, scheduling, testing, quality control, and project closeout. We managed all negotiations between NCDOT, Durham County, and the project owner.
