Wake Forest University School of Medicine
Piedmont Triad Community Research Center
WINSTON-SALEM, NC
This project involved a comprehensive analysis comparing a full renovation to a replacement design for the existing Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s Piedmont Triad Community Research Center. The renovation option involved selective demolition of various wings of the three-story building, removal of the mechanical yard, and a full interior gut and redo with new, open, and enclosed labs and office space. The replacement option included a full demolition of the building and replacing it with a new five-story structure to house a vivarium, BSL research labs, and office space. Both options include the addition of a new roof-top penthouse.
