Advanced Crop Lab

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA

Ground-up construction of a 126,000-SF research greenhouse with a 63,000-SF mechanical area. The Advanced Crop Lab was the first-of-its-class agricultural biotechnology facility with a wide range of high-tech growth environments enabling researchers to simulate any climate and precisely measure inputs and outputs. The project consisted of individually conditioned greenhouse rooms with a focus on light transmission and environmental control. Additionally, research space was programmed for growth rooms with precision plant variable control chambers. The project also included a 10,000-SF detached central utility plant that supports the current campus site.

As the construction manager, 35 North was responsible for establishing and implementing project controls including budget, schedule, quality, document control, information flow, and maintaining project objectives. We also facilitated design team interactions and served as liaisons with end-user groups while ensuring document conformance, establishing project turnover expectations, and developing and monitoring commissioning plans.
