UNC Central Generator Shell Building and Parking Deck
CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA
The project consisted of three separate components. The first included a multi-level parking deck, the second a power generation plant, and the third a medium voltage emergency power A-B loop ductbank for the campus, including changing the existing LV switchgear to kirk-keyed double-ended equipment in every building.
The UNCMC CGP/ Electrical Modernization project was undertaken to provide a new emergency power supply system, appropriately sized to serve the complete electrical requirements of UNC Hospitals. This system will include a new Central Generator Plant (CGP), fuel storage facility, underground electrical distribution to main electrical rooms, and renovation of existing electrical rooms within the hospital to meet new code requirements. The CGP was vital for the continued growth of the hospital campus to provide essential, emergency power to the existing buildings and new surgical tower.
