International Herbert Building AMSI Lab Renovation

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA

RTI International is an independent, nonprofit research institute, dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. Their vision is to be the world’s leading independent research organization, recognized for solving critical social and scientific problems.

The project included renovating their existing building on their main campus in Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC. The scope included the demolition of existing space and construction of a new general lab, wet chemistry lab, biological/biomedical lab, and new workspace.

Equipment installation included:

• Laboratory casework
• Fume hoods
• Miscellaneous laboratory equipment

The Herbert Building AMSI Lab renovation was part of a phased approach to consolidate operations positioning RTI International as a contributor to the advancement of science and driver of positive change.

As the construction manager, 35 North, was responsible for establishing and implementing project controls including budget, schedule, quality, document control, information flow, and the maintenance of project objectives. We also established and monitored commissioning plans and were responsible for the procurement of equipment and services for the project. Our firm developed RFPs, collected bids, recommended PO awards, and managed the logistics of integrating the equipment purchase and the installation/construction of the project.
