Syngenta

Laboratory Renovations

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA

The Innovation Center explores the nutritional needs and external stresses of corn, soybean, cereal, rice, vegetables, and sugar cane. We performed infrastructure modifications to the existing laboratory. The modifications allow Syngenta to further study traits that help crops better tolerate climate variability, combat plant stressors, and improve yield.

The approximately 10,000-SF, fast-track renovation project included:

  • Demolition
  • Lab casework, bio-safety cabinets, and laminar flow hoods
  • Telepresence room
  • HVAC modifications, electrical upgrades, and relocation of pre-action fire suppression systems
  • Revised building automation
  • Vacuum system upgrades
  • Fermenters and steam boilers

The project was conducted in an occupied facility where safety, logistics, and communication were paramount. The contract also included the decommissioning, packaging, and interstate transportation of equipment.
